Alexandr Wang is the founder and CEO of Scale AI, a company providing data infrastructure for machine learning. In 2025, Meta acquired Scale AI for approximately $14.3 billion and appointed Wang to lead its newly established Superintelligence division.
Scale AI
Wang founded Scale AI to address a critical bottleneck in AI development: the quality and organization of training data. The company provides tools and services for data labeling, curation, and validation—essential infrastructure for training large language models and other AI systems.
Meta’s Superintelligence Division
In June 2025, Meta brought Wang into the company as part of a major reorganization. Wang was tasked with leading Meta’s Superintelligence division, a new group focused on advancing AI research and development. This move came alongside significant restructuring of Meta’s AI research organization (FAIR), which had been founded and led by Yann LeCun.
Organizational Impact
Wang’s appointment represented Meta’s commitment to the large language model scaling trajectory. However, it also created organizational tension with LeCun, Meta’s Chief AI Scientist, who held a different vision for AI research. LeCun later left Meta to found Advanced Machine Intelligence Labs, citing differences in strategic direction.
